Our Values

In every aspect of our practice, our core values are kindness, honesty, effectiveness, honoring and demonstrating courage, and confidentiality.

Kindness

We see the humanity in all of our clients and maintain unconditional positive regard for them. We respect their experiences and perspectives. We believe clients must feel safe and free to express themselves openly in therapy without judgement. The quality of the relationship that a client reports having with their therapist is one of the most important predictors of therapy outcomes.

Honesty

There are times in therapy where a therapist must draw attention to uncomfortable patterns or ask challenging questions. We think a therapist’s honesty, authenticity, and willingness to say hard things to clients enhances is vital to effective therapy. Being honest with clients–including with regard to therapy process and costs–is a central value of our practice.

Effectiveness

We know that therapy is often a meaningful financial investment to improve one’s mental, emotional, relational, and physical health. Thus, we are convinced that therapy should actually work, and that it’s our job, as therapists, to assess if clients are experiencing desired change and progress. We are committed to providing research-informed intervention. We stay current with the latest research, attend professional training and conferences, and do all we can to provide clients with the most effective treatments.

Honoring & Demonstrating Courage

We view therapy as a courageous endeavor. We appreciate the bravery clients demonstrate when discussing some of their most personal and sensitive experiences. Often, therapy requires remarkable courage as clients confront avoided thoughts, feelings, or experiences. We are committed to affirming clients in their unique identities. As therapists, we also seek to be brave advocates for our clients and community.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality is the bedrock of the therapeutic relationship and we do all in our power to ensure it. Except for several notable exceptions that are reviewed explicitly during the intake process, clients can trust that what they share in therapy is confidential. We are also careful in how we document sessions; we strive to ensure that clients would be comfortable with the level of detail shared about them and their inner lives if they were to read our clinical notes.
